Description

5. Some kind of lethal force is encroaching on the territory of the fearsome Desna pack. The pack leaders will not listen to reason and move the pack to safer grounds, away from the territory that has belonged to them since the Tartok Mountains first rose from the earth. Somehow, your Tokota must convince Fenrir, the only other dire who has enough sway and command over the pack to move it.

---

These lands were foreign, and these strangers were unknown to him, but still he strove to help them, to save their burning lands from utter obliteration. No hope remained and only embers remained as the fires continued to gorge itself on their packlands. None of the pack elders had listened and they burned for their arrogance.

Kangee's head turned back to look solemnly at the young tokota that followed him, trusting his experience to save them from death's flames, hoping somehow he could convince the remaining tokota who stubbornly stayed behind in their ancestral lands regardless of the impending threat. But who, who could convince these foolish tokota that their lives would not sate these ravaging flames and that they would only leave sadness behind.

There was only one tokota that came to mind and even approaching him would be done at the risk of death by his jaws--Fenrir.

The great brown dire was a legend, a beast, and a ghost. His location was a mystery, something that only the spirits seemed to know, but there was no time to commune with Aippaq or any of their lesser spirits to earn the privilege of seeing him, they simply had to hope they were worthy enough and that their cause was just enough for their paws to walk in the right direction.

As the fires licked only miles behind them, chewing through the vegetation and what few trees dotted the foothills, they walked, paws sore and minds fogged from the fear that clung over the small group that Kangee led, he came. Fenrir's large form appeared as if a ghost, his mouth open and teeth bared to the trespassing mini-pack. The younger, more fearful tokota stayed back, only separated from Kangee's backside by around twenty feet and the well-known roan's eagle.

"Fenrir." Kangee greeted, his posture remaining rigid, confident, his tail raised to match the brown dire's.

"Kangee," he replied, his voice akin to gravel. "you know full well that you are not welcome here, not after what you've done."

Pale peach eyes narrowed to stare into Fenrir's flaring brown ones. "This isn't about me, Fenrir. It's about them," he tossed his head back, motioning to three young tokota that watching warily from a distance. "Their lands are burning, Fenrir and there's nothing that they, you, or I can do to stop the flames from consuming what remains, but we can save those that stubbornly remain." There was a pause, a moment to watch Fenrir's eyes dart to the three youngsters who cowered under his gaze.

"You," Kangee continued, "You have the sway to convince them otherwise. Even though you are not of their pack, they would listen to you. You're closer to Aippaq, to the spirits, than any of us could even hope to be in this lifetime. If you lead them, or even just tell them to leave, then I'm sure they would listen."

"No."

"Fen--"

"No." He repeated, his voice growing sterner this time. "This pack must suffer for its ignorance and if that means they should die, then they will die with their lands." As the dire turned to leave, to fade back into the unknown, Kangee rushed forward.

"Fenrir, please! These flames are taking land and tokota just as the humans have. We cannot just allow them to just die when we have the ability to save them!" Kangee's voice raised loud enough to surprise even the great dire, enough to produce a chuckle from Fenrir's throat.

"Fine, but know I am not doing this for you."
